What actually moves the price of a local move

Two identical 2-bedroom apartments can land at opposite ends of that $800 to $1,600 range. Here's what makes the difference, and how to steer your quote toward the low end:

Stairs and elevators. A third-floor walkup takes a crew roughly twice as long as a ground-floor load. If your building has an elevator, reserve it; a booked service elevator can shave an hour or more off the day.
How much stuff, really. Bedrooms are a proxy; cubic feet are the truth. A minimalist 3-bedroom can cost less than a 1-bedroom with a garage full of "we might need this someday."
The parking situation. Every extra 50 feet between the truck and your door is called a "long carry" for a reason. Save us a spot out front and you save money.
Your date. Mid-week, mid-month moves run about 15% to 20% less than the last weekend of the month, when every lease in America expires at once.
Packing readiness. If every box is sealed and labeled when we arrive, the day goes fast. Open drawers and a plan to sort it out later slow everything down.

How move day goes

We text you when the truck is on the way. The crew lead walks the home with you, confirms the plan, and lays down floor protection. Furniture gets wrapped, beds come apart, and boxes roll out in room-labeled order. At the new place everything lands in the right room, beds go back together, and we don't leave until you've done a final walkthrough with the crew lead. The bill matches the written quote.

Flat-rate is better for most homes with a bedroom or more. You know the price before we lift a single box, and slow elevators or traffic become our problem, not yours. Hourly ($120 to $180 per hour for two movers and a truck) can be cheaper for very small, well-prepared moves close by. Ask us to quote both and pick the lower one.

How long does a local move take?

A studio usually takes 2 to 4 hours, a 2-bedroom 4 to 6 hours, and a 3 or 4 bedroom home 6 to 10 hours door to door. Elevators, long carries from the truck, and how much is boxed up before we arrive move that number more than anything else. Since your price is flat, a slow elevator costs you nothing extra.

Do I need to empty my dressers before a local move?

Light, soft things like clothes and linens can usually stay in sturdy dressers for a local move; we wrap the whole piece so drawers stay shut. Please empty anything fragile, liquid, or heavy (books have broken more drawer bottoms than we can count), and always empty desks and file cabinets.

What should I do before the crew arrives?

Three things save you the most money: finish boxing before we arrive (or add our packing service), reserve parking or a loading dock as close to the door as possible, and defrost the fridge 24 hours ahead. Boxes labeled by room mean the crew drops everything exactly where it belongs at the new place.
